Mothers Day in the UK is fast approaching. In less than a week actually. How should we place Mothers Day in the greater realm of living in the UK as western muslims?

In Islam, it is said by the prophet Muhammad (pbuh) that “Your mother should be the first and come before all others” When asked who should come after your mother, the reply is again “Your mother!” And asked upon the third time, the prophet yet again stated “the mother!” I think it’s pretty clear how important the prophet considered the importance of the mother.

We as Muslims are not imitating the West on Mothers day. In fact, in this case, it’s the other way around! They are imitating what we Muslims should be doing 365 days a year - showing love and respect to our mothers. So fear not, engage with your mum and treat her throughout the year and not just on Mothers day.
